Working across dance, theatre, clowning, and live music, Murmur is a multi-disciplinary artist-run collective in Nanaimo, a small city on Vancouver Island. We create a platform for underrepresented artists: emerging artists looking to establish their professional practice; alternative voices from and for non-English speakers, LGBTQIA+ communities, and oppressed or minority cultural groups.  Nanaimo is in the midst of new and revitalizing cultural renewal, and Murmur is at the vanguard of this renewal with other socially-focused artists and artistic groups.

Murmur is currently touring three works:

The Murmur Spectacular — a 40-minute cabaret-style show blending dance, mime, clowning, spoken word, music, and pole performance, with rotating performers and a focus on new creations.

The Checkerthing — a roaming, improvised piece for festivals, featuring a troupe of dancing bodies "murmuring" through festival grounds in full checkerboard body suits.

Voices In My Body / Des voix dans mon corps — a 50-minute bilingual dance-theatre performance, presentable indoors or outdoors, that pairs live movement with linked-headphone "silent disco" technology so audiences can choose their language experience live.
