Arts Collective
multi-disciplinary
creation and performance
Vancouver Island, Canada

Murmur is a new artist-run collective/company in Nanaimo, a small city on Vancouver Island. We aim to be a platform for underrepresented artists: emerging artists looking to establish their professional practice; alternative voices from and for non-English speakers, LGBTQIA+ communities, and oppressed or minority cultural groups. Nanaimo is in the midst of new and revitalizing cultural renewal, and Murmur intends to be at the vanguard of this renewal with other socially-focused artists and artistic groups.
Murmur Arts Collective supports innovative art projects in smaller cities and communities, such as our home base in Nanaimo. We aim to connect artists through co-creation projects, workshops, and Open Floor events. We also create touring shows that we intend to tour nationally and internationally.

In 2023, Murmur debuted by performing “The Circuit” at the Otherworld Festival, an acclaimed improvised piece where 11 dancing bodies were “murmuring” throughout the festival grounds dressed in full checkerboard body suits.

Murmur's largest current project is a bilingual dance-theatre outdoor performance that explores improvised and choreographed movement using silent disco technology, called Voices In the Body/ Des voix dans mons corps.
